The Junior Barber Academy keeps teens off the streets and changes lives one haircut at a time

Former Visiting Fellow Robert Listenbee spoke to The Philadelphia Tribune about the District Attorney’s work to support nonprofits working to prevent gun violence.

A $25,000 grant to the Junior Barber Academy in Manayunk from the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office last month has already made a big difference in the lives of the teens who go there.

The school, run by the nonprofit P. Michael Boone Foundation, has used the money to buy hair clippers and other barbering tools, so students no longer have to buy their own.

“Barbering is not just about haircuts, it’s about shaping lives,” Boone said.
