Young Artist Program

Project Summary

The Young Artist Program helps BIPOC & LGBTQ+ youth improve their understanding of issues that are central to their lives, such as mental health, housing, and incarceration.

The Project

The Young Artist Program supports BIPOC & LGBTQ+ youth and their allies in a free, afterschool setting where they explore art and build relationships to grow their confidence, leadership, and political consciousness. Through the program, young people improve their understanding of issues that are central to their lives, such as mental health, housing, and incarceration.

The Young Artist Program’s offerings include:

  • An Annual Winter Auction led by students.
  • Collaborations with peer organizations to create, exhibit, and sell art.
  • A Zine Fest featuring the Young Artist Program’s zine, which was subsequently included in Temple University’s and the University of Pennsylvania’s libraries.
  • An Annual Gay Field Day, which is a day spent in community with youth and program supporters playing games and making art.
