The Project
UrbEd is a student-led, student-founded nonprofit organizing and advocating for safe, healthy, and fully funded public schools that provide young people with the education they deserve. With the support of UrbEd, young people in Philadelphia learn to harness their power as student representatives, reimagine health and safety in their schools, and organize as a community.
UrbEd’s current campaigns focus on:
- Challenging the Philadelphia School Board’s policy limiting the number of speakers and length of comments allowed during public meetings
- Strengthening the power and capacity of student representatives on the Philadelphia School Board
- Reimagining safety and health in Philadelphia schools
UrbEd also develops advocacy guides for students and supports young people directly through paid Fellowships. UrbEd Fellows work together to identify and address issues plaguing the education system and learn strategies from expert speakers, policymakers, and other education leaders.
