TITLE: Deputy Director

LOCATION: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of the organization in support of its mission to improve the life outcomes of local youth by advancing changes in the systems that serve them. Work in partnership with the Executive Director in developing program and policy directions/strategies for the Foundation to further its mission of improving the lives of vulnerable youth. Lead Fellowship programming, including recruitment of Fellows, reviewing and validating Fellowship proposals, as well as developing and overseeing a significant portfolio of Fellowship programming and leadership support. Develop and maintain relationships and build credibility and trust with a diverse set of stakeholders to develop thought leadership around current and emerging issues relevant to the Foundation and Fellows’ work. Represent the Foundation at conferences and meetings to promote sustainability of Fellowship work post-Fellowship. Work with other Foundation staff to ensure that projects, programs, and public events articulate and implement the strategic vision of the Foundation; and develop metrics for assessing ongoing and completed Fellow projects for level of achievement, impact, and sustainability. Engage in knowledge dissemination and reporting, to promote the Foundation and Fellows work and communicate substantive expertise with policies and youth-serving systems that impact the lives of children in the Philadelphia region, including child welfare, juvenile justice, behavioral health, and education. Work with the Executive Director and Director of Administration for essential internal management activities (budget planning and recruitment). Liaise with national, state, and regional agencies and boards, and their leadership, on behalf of the Foundation. Ensure that the Foundation is aware and working consistently with trends in youth justice by connecting with regional, state, and national youth justice leadership. Represent the Foundation and maintain the Foundation connection to innovative policies and practices in child welfare by sitting on regional and national boards, committees, and working groups. Supervise staff on non-Fellowship grant programs and Emerging Leader Fellow programming. Develop and review the Foundation’s Fellow application, reporting, and assessment tools with the Foundation’s Senior Strategy & Planning Officer. Contribute to national youth justice publications to raise Foundation and Fellows’ profile. Coordinate with the Foundation’s Director of Administration concerning Fellowship budget and additional financial requirements.

EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Law, Public Policy, Social Work, or related field and the following experience: 10 years of relevant experience in a nonprofit, philanthropic, or similar organization addressing the needs of vulnerable youth; 10 years of experience with assessing ongoing and completed projects in the non-profit sector for level of achievement, impact, and sustainability; 5 years of experience in developing and maintaining relationships and building credibility and trust among a diverse set of stakeholders; and 5 years of experience in communicating substantive expertise with policies and youth-serving systems that impact the lives of children in the Philadelphia region, including child welfare, juvenile justice, behavioral health and education.
