Gregg Volz honored for developing youth courts

November 2, 2009

Stoneleigh Fellow Gregg Volz, a social activist and public interest lawyer from Delaware County, was honored in October 2009 for his exceptional work in organizing and implementing a youth court program at Chester High School.  Volz received the President’s Award on Friday, October 9, 2009, at the Pennsylvania Council for the Social Studies (PCSS) Annual Conference.  Pennsylvania Secretary of Education Gerald Zahorchak joined PCSS President David Trevaskis in singling out Volz for providing a model of citizenship education and social justice the Pennsylvania Department of Education and PCSS are promoting in all of Pennsylvania schools.

“Gregg Volz’s work in Chester, both in setting up the youth court at Chester High and in now developing and running a Street Law class at the school inspires us all,” noted Trevaskis.  “There is great hope for the future in Chester because of his commitment to serve the young people and the larger community.” For more information on Gregg and his work with youth courts click here.
