Karissa Phelps is an Attorney with Spears Wilderman, P.C.. She previously served as an Emerging Leader Fellow with Temple Legal Aid working to expand access to kinship care for child welfare-involved families and youth in Philadelphia.
Karissa has provided legal assistance to families involved in the child welfare system through Temple’s Family Law Litigation Clinic and through field work at the Support Center for Child Advocates. She also has experience in legal research and legal aid through her work at Esperanza Immigration Legal Services, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Honorable Judge C. Darnell Jones. Karissa was a recipient of an Equal Justice America summer fellowship and Temple’s Barrister’s Award in trial advocacy. Prior to graduate school, she served as a bilingual family advocate with Maternity Care Coalition’s Early Head Start program.
Karissa holds a BSW and a BA in Spanish from Eastern University and a JD and MSW from Temple University.
