How this advocate is helping older foster kids improve a system that failed them

Stoneleigh Emerging Leader Fellow Dominique Mikell is featured by Generocity for her work with Juvenile Law Center to strengthen the implementation of extended foster care in Pennsylvania. 

In 2015, 275 youth aged out of Philadelphia’s foster care system. Department of Human Services approximates the city is on track to hit that number again in 2016. Dominique Mikell, a policy researcher and Stoneleigh Foundation Emerging Leader Fellow with Juvenile Law Center, sees that as 275 broken promises.

Your typical 18-year-old American might have a familial support network to see that development through, said Mikell, but growth after 18 is different when your legal guardian is a government system that’s still trying to figure out what you need.
