Using Data to Strengthen Hospital-Based Violence Intervention

Janene Brown currently serves as a Stoneleigh Emerging Leader Fellow at The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention (HAVI). In this role, Janene is leading a research study assessing the impacts of a hospital-based violence intervention program to support evidence-based investments in violence prevention.

Janene is an epidemiologist with a focus on health equity, dismantling systemic racism, and reducing morbidity and mortality from injuries. Her doctoral dissertation investigated whether income inequality and earning income from various sources are social determinants of injury risk. She has published and presented her work in Philadelphia and nationally.

Previously, Janene served as a Project Manager for Public Health Management Corporation’s Research and Evaluation Group, where she conducted an evaluation of a sexual health intervention for teenagers and their caregivers living in North Philadelphia.

Janene holds a bachelor’s degree in health and societies from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s in public health and PhD in epidemiology from Drexel University.
