Using Data to Strengthen Hospital-Based Violence Intervention

Beginning in September 2021, Janene Brown will serve as a Stoneleigh Emerging Leader Fellow at The Healthcare Alliance for Violence Intervention (HAVI). In this role, Janene will lead a research study assessing the impacts of a hospital-based violence intervention program to support evidence-based investments in violence prevention.

Janene is an epidemiologist with a focus on health equity, dismantling systemic racism, and reducing morbidity and mortality from injuries. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Drexel University’s Dornsife School of Public Health. Her dissertation investigates whether income inequality and earning income from various sources are social determinants of injury risk. She has published and presented her work in Philadelphia and nationally.

Previously, Janene served as a Project Manager for Public Health Management Corporation’s Research and Evaluation Group, where she conducted an evaluation of a sexual health intervention for teenagers and their caregivers living in North Philadelphia.
