Ashley Sawyer, JD
Special Education Advocacy for Incarcerated Youth
Ashley Sawyer currently serves as Senior Attorney at the Advancement Project’s national office.
Prior to joining Girls for Gender Equity, Ashley was a Staff Attorney at Youth Represent. She also served as a Stoneleigh Emerging Leader Fellow at the Education Law Center, where she implemented special education representation on behalf of incarcerated youth, led a project focused on reducing disproportionate school exclusion of black girls in Philadelphia, and played a role in eliminating suspensions for kindergarteners in Philadelphia schools. Ashley was also co-chair of the Legal Rights of Children Committee for the Philadelphia Bar Association and is an alumna of the National Juvenile Justice Network’s Youth Justice Leadership Institute.
Ashley holds a BA in political science from Rutgers University and a JD from Howard University’s School of Law.
