Philly schools’ new community patrols based on Chicago safety program

Former Stoneleigh Fellow and current Board Member Kevin Bethel was featured by PhillyVoice for his press conference announcing the use of community members to act as safety patrols for the School District of Philadelphia.

Community members soon will begin patrolling outside four Philadelphia high schools during arrival and dismissal times as part of a new student safety effort.

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime & Delinquency has granted the School District of Philadelphia up to $750,000 to implement the Safe Path program, which aims to ensure student safety without bolstering the schools’ police presence.
