On June 14, youth service providers, young adult leaders, and community members joined the Stoneleigh Foundation, Juvenile Law Center, and Philly Homes 4 Youth for the Philadelphia premiere of The Homestretch. This powerful documentary follows three teenagers experiencing homelessness as they fight to stay in school, graduate, and build a future. Each of their stories highlights how housing instability complicates the transition to successful adulthood.
Following the screening, Nan Feyler, a Stoneleigh Fellow in the City of Philadelphia’s Deputy Managing Director’s Office for Health and Human Services, facilitated a discussion with Hazel Edwards, a youth advocate serving on the Young Adult Leadership Committee of the City’s Continuum of Care Board; Liz Hersh, director of the City’s Office of Homeless Services; and Dominique Mikell, a Stoneleigh Emerging Leader Fellow at Juvenile Law Center. The speakers drew upon their experience and expertise to discuss efforts to end youth homelessness in Philadelphia.
Through this screening and other events to come, the Stoneleigh Foundation and its partners hope to advance the public dialogue about how Philadelphia addresses the most pressing challenges related to improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.
