Common Justice Newsletter: Fall 2009
In the Fall 2009 issue of the Common Justice newsletter, Stoneleigh Fellow Danielle Sered provides the latest updates on the participatory justice program she leads in Brooklyn, New York. The program currently handles eleven cases at different stages in the process--an innovative form of restorative justice.
In the newsletter, you can learn more about the preparatory phase of the process where Common Justice staff meet separately with both the responsible and the harmed parties prior to bringing them together in a conference. Danielle demonstrates how the program is effective in helping responsible parties be held accountable for their actions and better understand the impact their actions may have had on the harmed parties. As one participant said, "This is bigger than the court case now. This is about what I need to do for me and for her."
