Program Guidelines: Philadelphia

Application Process

Our application process begins early each fall and is designed to bring together interested fellowship candidates with organizations seeking to host a Junior Fellows. The process has four steps:

  1. Partner organizations submit to Stoneleigh Foundation a description of the project they are interested in pursuing with a Junior Fellow. Organizations should see Instructions for Submitting a Project Abstract.
  2. We advertise Selected Projects through our website and email distribution.
  3. Interested candidates apply directly to the partner organization using the Individual Application.
  4. Each partner organization selects a candidate and together they submit a Joint Application to Stoneleigh.

Program Guidelines & Eligibility Criteria

Organizations eligible to host a Junior Fellow

  • Organizations interested in hosting a Junior Fellow must attend the August 25, 2010 information session hosted by Stoneleigh Foundation, regardless of whether they have applied before. This is a mandatory meeting where the philosophy of the program, application process and fellowship expectations are explained. Stoneleigh Foundation will not accept applications from organizations that did not attend the August 25, 2010 information session.
  • Organizations that currently have a Junior Fellow are ineligible to apply this cycle.  These organizations are welcome to apply in future cycles.
  • Any organization that submitted a project in previous years but was not selected for funding is eligible to apply in the current cycle.

Projects eligible for fellowship consideration must:

  • Provide a valuable professional development experience for the Junior Fellow.
  • Give the Junior Fellow an opportunity to help design and carry out a discrete project or phase of a project within a one-year time frame.
  • Focus on issues connected to child welfare, juvenile justice, and the education or behavior health of vuilnerable populations.
  • Provide the Junior Fellow with an opportunity to conduct research, test new ideas, build programs, develop social policy and/or create strategies for system improvement.

Candidates eligible for a Junior Fellowship

  • Junior Fellow candidates should have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree within the last three years.
  • Candidates who are completing graduate degrees are eligible to apply.  The candidate must demonstrate that s/he can effectively balance a full-time fellowship and partial coursework.
